Food Safety System Certification (FSSC) 22000
FSSC 22000 is a certification scheme for Food Safety Management Systems using the international and independent standards ISO 22000 and PAS 220. It is fully recognised by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI), and is supported by the European Food & Drink Association and the American Groceries Manufacturing Association.

WHY fSSC 22000 standards?
FSSC 22000 was developed for the international food sector. It is an independent ISO-based food safety scheme for third party auditing and certification of Food Safety Management Systems.
The scheme certifies food safety systems for food manufacturers that process or manufacture:
- animal products,
- perishable vegetable products,
- products with a long shelf life, and
- other food ingredients like additives, vitamins and bio-cultures.
Certification with FSSC 22000 will help you meet your customer's requirements and achieve access to overseas markets.
Differences between FSSC & other GFSI recognised schemes
- Independent, international standards - not owned by a specific stakeholder organisation. Developed and maintained by food safety experts from around the world who come from all stakeholders in the food supply chain including retailers, manufacturers, food authorities etc.
- A Management System Certifcation - not a process / product certification scheme. Focus on management commitment, effectivenes, and continuous improvement, which all support an organisation to acheive better results and a higher level of conformity.
- Focused on food safety - ISO 22000 and PAS 220 cover food safety, therefore the whole audit is focused on the management and assurance of food safety. Manufacturers that are already certified against ISO 22000 will only need an additional review against BSI PAS 220/ISO 22002-1 to meet this certification scheme.
- Independent scheme management by Board of Stakeholders who represent the interests of all involved parties globally, and chaired by an independent chairman.

- Supply Chain approach - at present the scope of FSSC 22000 is manufacturing of food products and food ingredients. However, it has the potential to extend its scope and cover the whole of the food supply chain if there are requirements in other parts of the supply chain.
