How to Meet the GLOBALGAP Standard for Food Safety

WHAT IS THE GLOBALGAP STANDARD AND WHY DO YOU NEED IT?
GLOBALGAP is the pre farm gate standard set in place by Europe's leading food retailers to give their customers more assurance of food safety. Only certified growers can supply these retailers and as such, many customers see GLOBALGAP Certification as a "passport to market".

- GLOBALGAP Integrated Farm Assurance- Fruit & Vegetables- Version 3.0-2 Sept 09
- NZGAP Version April 2008 ( GLOBALGAP Equivalent)
The GLOBALGAP standard covers
GLOBALGAP certification allows New Zealand growers access to European markets because it provides evidence that their practices meet Good Agricultural Practice standards including:
- a commitment to maintaining consumer confidence in food safety
- minimising detrimental impact on the environment, whilst conserving nature and wildlife
- reducing the use of agrichemicals
- improving the efficiency of natural resource use
- ensuring a responsible attitude towards worker health and safety
Steps to gaining GLOBALGAP Certification
GLOBALGAP offers a way of incorporating Integrated Crop and Pest Management practices within the framework of commercial agricultural production, so many of the principles involved are not new to NZ growers. Past experience has shown us that in most cases our customers are already fulfilling many of the requirements of the GLOBALGAP standard, requiring only a small amount of extra effort to achieve it and access the benefits associated with certification to the standard.

| Complete and return the GLOBALGAP registration form |
Complete a self assessment using the GLOBALGAP checklist. Once any non-conformances identified by you are addressed send your completed GLOBALGAP Registration Form, to: AsureQuality Limited, Private Bag 14946, Panmure, Auckland, New Zealand Attention: Systems and Skill or email certificationservices@asurequality.com Refer to www.newzealandgap.co.nz for NZGAP (GLOBALGAP Equivalent) registration processes. |
| On-site assessment / audit |
| A GLOBALGAP auditor will contact you to make an appointment to conduct an on-site audit of your operation to ensure that every aspect of your operation complies with GLOBALGAP Compliance Criteria. |
| Submission of audit findings |
| Following the on-site audit, the GLOBALGAP auditor will submit a formal report on the findings of the audit. The report will include (but may not be confined to) any non-conformance against the GLOBALGAP Compliance Criteria that needs to be addressed. |
| Response to any audit findings / non-conformances |
| The GLOBALGAP auditor will agree with you on how to resolve any non-conformances and set the closing due date. |
| GLOBALGAP Certification status issued |
| When all non-conformances are closed out, a GLOBALGAP certification status certificate will be issued covering the scope of your operation. |
| Annual review |
| An annual audit is required to renew your certification status each year. In addition, AsureQuality conduct random unannounced audits on 10% of certified practices each year. |
