AsureQuality offers Melamine Testing
Melamine is a chemical that is used in many ways including for making kitchen and dining ware, surfaces for cabinetry, floor tiles and fire retardant fabrics.
It has also been used to adulterate various products and ingredients used as or in human and animal foods. There is now some concern that it is being used to ‘cut’ fertilisers and pesticides that are used to produce food.
Sometimes, however, very low levels are being found in foods and ingredients. These low levels do not arise from adulteration, and the causes and risks to consumers from this are under international investigation. Many Regulatory bodies are currently setting limits and guidelines for low level melamine content.
AsureQuality’s Analytical offer
AsureQuality is providing melamine testing in a wide variety of foods including:
- Milk and colostrum
- Dairy products such as milk and whey protein powders, cheese, yoghurts, creams etc.
- Infant formulas, specialist foods and nutraceutical products based on, or derived from, dairy product
- Specialist ingredients such as lactose and lactoferrin which are derived from milk
- Foods such as cakes, biscuits, breads and sweets containing dairy products
- Animal and fish feeds
- Fruits and vegetables
AsureQuality is using the most sensitive and accurate testing methods to analyse for melamine by using Liquid Chromatography Tandem Mass Spectrometry (known as LC-MSMS). Our methods also detect the closely related compounds cyanuric acid, ammelide and ammeline.
We have a suite of methods that can measure amounts of melamine as low as 50 parts per billion to meet the requirements of regulators or your general concerns. [This level can be written as 50 ppb, this being equivalent to 0.05 ppm, 0.05 mg/kg and 0.05 mg/L.]
AsureQuality can accept samples for testing from around the world and our Laboratories are, as a minimum, accredited to the internationally accepted ISO 17025 standard.
