Testing Honey for Tutin

The  New Zealand Food Safety Authority (NZFSA) has revised a honey food standard that now applies to all honey produced above 42 degrees south and harvested or packed for sale and export. The Food (Tutin in Honey) Standard 2010 came into effect on 1 January 2011. In light of this, AsureQuality has revised its tutin testing services and now offers two testing options.

tutin Testing options for Honey & Comb Honey

AsureQuality is offering two testing options from 1 February 2011:

Option 1

  • Testing to a <1mg/kg Reporting Limit

Cost - $125 excl GST for the first sample and $15 ex GST for each additional sample per submission.

This option offers cost effective testing in compliance with the standard. Each sample will receive its own test certificate.

Option 2

  • Testing to a <0.01mg/kg Reporting Limit

Cost - $125 excl GST per sample.

This option offers the greater assurance required for comb honey producers. Each sample will receive its own test certificate.

National Beekeeper Association members will still receive a 10% discount on the cost of their tutin testing.

Timeframes for tutin testing

10-14 days turnaround time from receipt at the laboratory.

If you require a faster turnaround time, please contact Customer Services 0508 00 11 22. Addtional charges apply and priority services may not be available during busy or seasonal periods.
